What does SEO stand for?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Maybe you’ve already heard that term before but what does it actually mean?

SEO is the process of getting your website to show up organically in search engines at the exact moment when people are searching for your products and services. 

When we say ‘organically’ what we’re referring to is having your website show up on the first page of Google without having to spend money on pay-per-click ads known as Google ads (or previously Adwords).

With Google ads you pay every time someone clicks on your ad. Overtime the cost of these clicks goes up with increased competition in your industry and limited inventory of ad space.

By showing up organically you do not need to pay per click every time someone visits your site. Also worth noting is that the organically ranked websites on the first page of Google get approximately 50% more click throughs than the ads in the top spots.

How much does SEO cost?

The price of SEO services is heavily dependant on a number of factors. Firstly, it’s important to understand your goals – where you currently are now and where you want to get to.

If you’re a local business wanting to rank your products or services in a local geographic region then that is a totally different strategy than an e-commerce store trying to rank for national terms. Both would require a significantly different investment level.

  • How old your website is and the history of your domain
  • Your website metrics and how healthy they are currently
  • The amount of content that is required to be added
  • Your location or level of competition
  • Your targets for the campaign and your business objectives
  • Your target market or industry – are you competing agains or the local removal companies.

High quality SEO services aren’t cheap and cheap SEO services are never a good investment. We aren’t the most expensive SEO agency in Geelong but we’re certainly not the cheapest – and that’s great news for you.

Unfortunately in our experience in the industry we’ve seen far too many businesses sink thousands of dollars into their SEO campaigns only to end up with less people visiting their websites than before. 

How long does SEO take?

This answer depends greatly on the position and quality of your website today. If you are a brand new website that is 2 weeks old, has only a few pages of content and is competing with more established websites that have been around for a long time. It will take longer.

If your website has been around since you started the business 10 years ago but you have never done anything to the site for SEO, then the age of your site will still have an advantage over a brand new site because it has trust in the eyes of Google and appears more like the reputable business that you are.

It should be no surprise that the competition you’re up against will be a factor to how long it takes also. In some competitive locations or industries your website could currently be on the 2nd page of Google, however, getting it to the first page could take as long as a website in a less competitive location that is currently on page 87.

What is the ROI on SEO?

We love this question. It’s the only metric we truly care about.

Whilst other agencies focus on keywords, clicks, comments, likes and shares – all we care about is the ROI. And I’m sure you think exactly the same. After all, you can’t pay the bills with likes, comments and shares can you?

As SEO is a long term strategy, so too is the ROI you will derive from it. The beauty of SEO compared to paid ads in Google is that the amount of website visitors you receive will grow exponentially over time, even though your budget remains the same. With paid ads, if you stop paying then the traffic stops immediately.

The bottom line is that whilst Google ads will provide immediate traffic and sales, it will take longer for you to see your first revenue with SEO, however, long term this results in a much lower customer acquistion cost combined with higher volume = exponentially greater returns.

For many businesses, SEO proves to be the most cost effective, highest ROI marketing activity available. From our experience, the ROI from SEO vs paid ads can be 5 – 20x greater. It can take 3-9 months to truly start to gain traction but for those that persist it is a game changer.

How can you afford not to have this in your business?


Can you get me to #1 on Google?

The short answer. Yes.

The longer answer. Your goal shouldn’t be to solely to get to #1 position for any one keyword but instead to increase the number of qualified visitors coming to your website.

95% of Google users never go beyond the first page so your goal should be to have your website show up in any of the 10 positions on the first page for your most important keywords , the higher the better.

From our experience it is more important to focus on ranking your website for the right keywords rather than chasing #1 positions at the expense of all others.

For example, it would be wiser to rank on the first page for 100 targeted keywords that all bring in traffic to your website rather than focus your efforts on trying to be #1 for one keyword and fogetting the other 99.

By achieveing a #1 ranking for only one keyword you have no diversification so if you lose that rank to a compeitior then your business suffers greatly because you don’t have traffic coming in from anywhere else.

If we flip that script, and you lose the rank of 1 keyword out of 100 that you’re ranking for, then you still have 99 others that are bringing in traffic until you can regain that position.

All of that said, if #1 is possible for your most important terms, then we’ll give it everything to get you there.

Will my results drop if I stop SEO?

SEo is alot like exercise. If you went to the gym consitently for 12 months straight then you’d be in great shape. Realistically, even if you stopped for 3 months you’d maintain a pretty good physique.

However, after a while your results would drop and you wouild require a tune up.

The same is true for SEO. Everything that we for your website is permanent and long term, however, just like in a running race if your pace slows down and your competitors start running faster than you are eventually they will overtake you.

The clients we work with generally choose to remain the front runners in their market and continue with their SEO campaigns long term so that they can continue to dominate and become unstoppable.

I've done SEO and been burned before. Why are you different?

If you’ve done SEO in the past and it hasn’t worked out for you then generally one of four things has happened:

  1. You’ve been ripped off by a scammer – unfortunately in our industry their are alot of snake oil salesmen. They sell you the dream of reaching the promised land and then move onto the next victim, delivering nothing but the hot air they spun you in the first place.   2. You hired your web designer, developer or marketing agency – You see SEO is a bit like heart surgery. You wouldn’t let your GP perform heart surgery on you or any of your family members would you? Of course not, you would find the most experienced heart surgeon available. With SEO it’s similar in that it requires a very specialised skillset in order to perform the surgery required on your website. Most web designers, developers or marketing companies offer ‘SEO’ as an add-on service by convincing you that they know what they’re doing but truly they have no clue. However, whilst they might be great at making beautiful looking websites, you don’t want to hire your web designer to do your SEO.
  3. Your SEO company hadno idea what they were doing – The barrier to entry in our industry is so low that anyone can wake up one morning and call themselves an SEO guru, Facebook ads guru or marketing guru. Usually they do this after downloading a $7 e-book that’s called something like ‘Underground SEO Secrets Revealed’ and then watching a few YouTube videos. Sadly they convince a few business owners that they know what they’re doing when in relaity they have no clue. SEO is a skillset that takes 10+ years to master and that’s why you need to have an expert in your corner.
  4. Your provider didn’t put in enough work to beat the competition – If you paid $200 or even $600 a month then chances are your campiagn simply wasn’t aggressive enough to beat your competiton and get results. In our space, this quote is so true; “If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional, wait until you hire an amateur”.

Do I need to sign any long term contracts?

No. Our view on this is pretty simple.

If we’re getting you results then you won’t want to leave. If we’re not getting you results then we shouldn’t keep your money.

We don’t believe in long term lock in contracts. Sure, other agencies use them but I truly believe they only benefit the marketing company because they can hold you for ransom. Or maybe it’s because they know deep down that they can’t deliver the results they’re promising so they need to lock you in to secure their own revenue.

We have a simple month to month SEO service and we believe this keeps us accountable to delivering our clients amazing results every month, consistently.

That said, we’re not interested in short term clients. If you’re not viewing this as a 12 month+ relationship then we’re not the right fit for you. We only partner with business owners that are focused on the long term accelerated growth of their business. So whilst that should be the view from day one, we won’t lock you into any contracts.

Do you offer PPC services?

No we don’t. Like we’ve said before we are SEO specialists and not generalist marketing gurus.

What reports will I get?

You will receive a ranking report showing you the results of your websites progress in Google’s search engine results page every month.

This report will detail your progress and give you peace of mind in the early months when you might not yet be receiving an increase in phonecalls to your business but can see your website is progressing more and more each month.

We’ll get you to the end result you desire and these reports will show the progress milestones along the way better than Hansel and Gretel’s breadcrumbs.

Is there a guarantee for your services?

There are many agencies lining up to tell you that they can guarantee #1 rankings for you. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it’s simply not true.

Ultimately, Google is the one who decides which website is ranked #1 so how could we or anybody else gurantee something that is out of our control?

There is no SEO company on the planet that has a special back room relationship with Google or is part of some inner circle guild that has special powers bestowed onto them. That doesn’t exist.

What we do know, however, is that there is a strong correlation between gurantees and shady SEO companies – so strong in fact that Google themselves recommend you run the other way.

We prefer to put client results first, even at the expense of our own profit. Maybe that’s not a great business decision for us but it’s great for you.

Is SEO dead?

This is a great question and usually asked in the context of “SEO is old school, shouldn’t I be focusing on social media now?”.

SEO isn’t dead but it certainly has evolved and changed over the years. What used to work no longer does and using outdated SEO tactics can now actually hurt or destroy your rankings and website rather than improve them.

There’s no better time to put your website in front of your target audience than right at the moment when they are actively searching for your products or services online.

Social media can also be effective but the battle you have is interrupting people whilst they’re sharing pictures of their kids with friends and family – eg. they’re not actively searching for what you have to offer.

At this moment in time, the place to get in front of prospects actively searching you out is to optimize for search engines. This will be true for as long as search engines like Google exist and we, the people, keep using them.
